Appeal for Food
St. Vincent de Paul has an appeal out for food for the needy of the
Comox Valley. There food cupboard is in need of items.
Thank you to all the parishioners who have supported our efforts to feed the hungry in the Comox Valley. We provide assistance to families and single persons from Ships Point to Miracle Beach. So far this year we have assisted 245 families and 56 single persons consisting of 411 adults and 426 children. That is a 30% increase over the same period last year. We have been spending on average $900/month to stock the food cupboard. The cupboards are bare and we need your help to stock them. We could use the following food items: peanut butter, preserves (fruit sweetened jams marmalades and honey), dried fruits (unsweetened), fruit sweetened granola and nut bars (no sugar/evaporated cane juice), fruit leather (naturally fruit sweetened), fruit and vegetable juices (unsweetened), canned or boxed milk, whole grain rice (brown rice, mixed rices), pasta, Kraft dinner, spaghetti sauces, whole grain crackers (minimal packaging), canned fish & meats, canned beans (chickpeas, navy, kidney), tinned fruits, soups and vegetables, canned chili, high fiber cereals, tea, coffee. The food can be dropped off in the foyer in the SSVP baskets. “Extend mercy towards others, so that there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping. For what hope is there for us if God should withdraw His Mercy from us.” St. Vincent de Paul.
