Since its founding in April 1958, with a membership base embracing Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland and Canadian Forces Base Comox (19 Wing), the Council has been very active in the Church and surrounding communities. The majority of these activities have been centered around our charitable donations, derived from a Gaming Funds as charter members of the Comox Valley Charitable Bingo Association, a Council "Burger Booth", which is active at most Valley community events, an annual State Charity Appeal Raffle, as well as sponsored Parish breakfasts on the first Friday and last Sunday of each month.
Major recipients of contributions are the Catholic Church, St. Joseph's Hospital, bursaries to the three local high schools, local youth activities, and Valley Christmas Hamper Funds, plus numerous other local activities and community charitable agencies.
A few of our most recent activities have been the establishment of "COLUMBUS PARK" on Tunner Drive completed in September 1996, the Marian Grotto completed in August 2000 on the church grounds, a garden gazebo funded and constructed for the Extended Care Unit of St. Joseph's Hospital in 2003, a public barbecue shelter at Simm's Park in 2007, and on-going annual assistance with the maintenance of area parks.
The Council has also been the official organizer and Marshaller, including traffic control, for both the Courtenay July 1st Canada Day Parade for the past 20 years and the Comox August Nautical days parade for the past 16 years.
We are an active and supportive Catholic Fraternal and Family Organization with over 150 members on our roll, and we are always seeking additional Catholic Gentlemen to join our ranks.
